Half Moon Yoga Studio

Half Moon Yoga Studio

Joni Takanikos: My relationship to yoga began over 40 years ago, when at the age of 14 I rolled out the mat in my first yoga class. It was a powerful awakening, and yoga has remained the brick and mortar of my journey. From the day we are born, we enter into the classroom of the body and its continuing cycle of renewal and teaching. Each muscle, bone, tendon, breath and thought inform not just our position on the mat, but our place on the path of our life as a soul incarnate. I will continue my quest towards greater knowledge of yoga, both for my own self study, and for the health and spirtual well being of my students. I have studied East Indian music with my beloved teacher, Prabha Devi, for six years, and her teachings continue to inform not only my voice, but my body and soul.

Off the mat, I am a singer/songwriter, poet, actress, blogger, gardener and traveler. Joni Takanikos is a 200-hour certified yoga teacher.

The focus will be on simplicity of asanas (yoga postures), pranayama (breathwork), meditation and proper allignment for each body. I will always encourage private sessions as well, as this is the original mode of teaching yoga, enabling both teacher and student to fully focus on all aspects of yoga, creating a dynamic and personal approach to the work. You will acquire an enhanced sense awareness of your body's innate intelligence to guide you, both in your yoga practice and your life. You will gain flexibility in your body, which when translated to your life outside the studio, gifts you with a renewed ability to stretch, flex, flow and breathe, allowing you to move through obstacles, and reach farther toward your goals.

As you follow your breath in meditation, you will find the quiet stillpoint in the center of your being. This grounding point will stay with you, and grow stronger with each practice.
